The British Defense Ministry on Tuesday quoted Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin as saying he was demanding a response to a “treaty” he had submitted to the Russian Defense Ministry. In doing so, Prigozhin was reacting to an ultimatum that “volunteer formations” should report to the ministry.
The ultimatum stipulates that Wagner and other units are contractually subordinate to the Ministry of Defense by July 1st. The content of Prigozhin’s “contract” is not known, it was said in London. But the transmission itself increases the risk in the internal conflict and is “most likely another deliberate attempt to undermine the authority of the official military authorities”. Prigozhin’s tone towards the Ministry of Defense had become clearly confrontational, the British ministry said.
Since the start of the Russian war of aggression almost 16 months ago, the authority has published information on the course of the war on a daily basis. Moscow accuses London of disinformation.
