25-year-old Tobias Rattinger from Steyr ran onto the podium right away at his premiere in a European Athletics Team Championship. The medical student from LAC Amateure Steyr completed the 3000 meter obstacle course in 8:53.59 minutes on the first day of the European Games in Kraków (Poland) and finished third. The young Steyrer thus earned 13 points for the Austrian national team.
“I led the race for a long time, but in the end I had to let the runners from Andorra and the Irish go,” says Rattinger, who was able to beat the athletes from Israel in the sprint to the finish of the tactically shaped run.
However, the LAC runner struggles a little with his time: “It doesn’t reflect my current form one hundred percent. But today it was just extremely hot.” Nevertheless, he was “happy with the performance shown. Running in national jerseys in such a huge stadium is definitely an unforgettable experience.”
