In their African homeland, they are superstars who fill stadiums. The six-piece band Mokoomba from Zimbabwe combines Tonga rhythms with funk and reggae in their music. On Saturday evening she will be performing in the “Kultursägewerk Schönau 8” – as an event of the Capital of Culture 2024. There will be a food truck and an after-show party, admission is free. The opening act “Grenzwert” opens the evening at 7.30 p.m. The concert can also be experienced live via video stream.
The concert was made possible by the Mühldorf Cultural Association, Freie Radio B138 and Freie Radio Salzkammergut. The two stations have been working closely with Radio Zongwe FM in Zambia for years. They helped set up the station, sent technical equipment and also made know-how available. And also editorially, there are constant bridges being built between the Salzkammergut and the Zambia reservoir.
This year, for example, with a fascinating school project called “Radio Transfer”. Pupils at the new middle school in Scharnstein and school children on the Zambezi River regularly put on radio programs (“audio letters”) in which they report on their everyday lives, their hopes, but also on the simple things in life. They exchange these contributions on the internet via an audio bridge.
The aim of the concert evening is also to get support for the friends in Africa. In the future, the African radios are to be equipped with a PV system from Austria. Concert-goers can also interact with the activists on Saturday evening.
