With their claim in the OÖN interview, the “Pro-Kremlin policy” of Austrian federal governments and the associated dependency on Russia in a committee of inquiry, Neos boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger addressed the other opposition parties in particular. They react cautiously to negatively.
FP Secretary General Christian Hafenecker suspects one “very transparent diversionary maneuver”with which the Neos boss formed an underground committee on the Kika/Leiner bankruptcy and the relationship between “Buberlpartie” around ex-Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (VP) to investor Rene Benko. (Only one U-committee after the other can be set up by a minority, note.) Hafenecker sees the motive for this being that the construction tycoon and Neos patron Hans-Peter Haselsteiner “15 percent co-owner of Signa” by Benko. Hafenecker believes that the push for a Russia committee has not been thought through to the end. After all, Haselsteiner was also big in business when building Putin’s Olympic city of Sochi.
The SP deputy Jan Krainer remained more reserved. For Krainer, the fact that both Hafenecker (Benko) and Meinl-Reisinger (Russia) initially made their demands public is not an indication of the “serious intention to set up a U-committee”. Both topics are interesting for him. Informal talks are being held with Neos and the FPÖ, but no one has yet brought up the subject of Russia.
One sees the use of U-committees as the right of a minority and therefore does not comment on the content, according to the VP club. Green mandatar David Stögmüller said that the Greens would be independent of the outcome “in any case, carry out serious educational work”.
Because National Council elections will take place in autumn 2024 at the latest, a sub-committee would have to start work by the beginning of the year.
