The government wants Mercosur to close the agreement with the EU once and for all

The Executive Branch continues to pressure the South American economic bloc to finalize the Free Trade Agreement.

Prior to what will be the beginning of a new summit of the mercosur in Puerto Iguazú (Missions, Argentina) this Monday, the Secretary of the Presidency, Alvaro Delgadoassured in an interview with Telemundo that from the government they hope that the South American bloc will aim to close the agreement with the European Union (EU) “once and for all“.

We need a flexible Mercosur that allows progress” and that it “generates opportunities,” Delgado explained. The presidential official recalled that “for more than 20 years” this agreement process has been under negotiation, so “it is time to close it now, we hope that with the presidency pro time of Spain“.

Delgado went further and maintained that from the Executive Branch they hope that the Iberian country in command can “achieve a greater synergy in the opportunity to advance in the signing of the FTA (FTA)”.

On the other hand, the presidential secretary commented that work continues on the China FTAand that the national government is “presenting some notes related to the Trans-Pacific Agreement (CPTPP)”, as well as “advancing with some other countries, such as Türkiye“, he added.

Schedule of the Mercosur summit in Argentina

On Monday the Common Market Council (CMC) made up of the foreign ministers and economy ministers of the four countries, to which will be added the presidents of the central banks of bolivian and Mercosur.
