A 27-year-old Belarusian wanted to return his newly purchased and originally packaged mobile phone to an electrical engineering shop in Steyr on Saturday because he had found a cheaper offer. An employee uncovered an attempt at fraud: the serial number of the returned smartphone did not match, it was a replica. The man had manipulated the packaging with coins so that it had the same weight as the original.
The police were alerted and temporarily arrested the man. The Belarusian from Steyr has probably gotten away with this scam eight times, two more times it was an attempt. The damage is around 10,500 euros. The 27-year-old was taken to the Garsten prison.
