The last daily report released by the Presidency on the state of the situation due to the water emergency in Montevideo and the metropolitan area returned to throw alarming data. The water reserves in the dam Severine Pass (Florida) dropped to 1.75% and salinity levels in the water skyrocketed.

Today, some 504,073 cubic meters of water were consumed in Montevideo and the metropolitan area, leaving Paso Severino with a total volume of 1,173,573 cubic meters of 67,000,000 cubic meters.

According to information provided by the SBI, the chloride and sodium levels jumped in all the pumping lines that supply the capital and its surroundings. Meanwhile he Ministry of Public Health (MSP) established as maximum values ​​allowed 720mg/l of chloride and 440mg/l of sodium, these were widely exceeded.

In the pumping line 4 that supplies the center of the capital of the country, the measurement of the daily average of chloride reached 845mg/l and the 501mg/l of sodium. In the pumping line 5 that supplies water to the western zone of Montevideo and surroundings, the chloride reached 837mg/l and sodium to 497mg/l. In turn, in the pump line 6 that supplies the east of the capital and its surroundings, the daily chloride records were 842mg/l and those of sodium 499mg/l.

MSP recommendations for the consumption of tap water by people at risk

Population with any of the following conditions: chronic kidney disease, heart failure, cirrhosis, pregnant women:

  • Avoid as much as possible the consumption of OSE wateradvised by your attending physician.
  • In case you have to take it, it is recommended not to exceed a liter of water/day and increase the frequency of blood pressure checks.
  • Complete the intake of the daily volume of water recommended by your doctor.
