If the first CH-R still showed curves, the second generation is now more angular. The two-tone paintwork reinforces the impression of a wedge shape, while the black border on the sills and front wheel arches exudes adventurous SUV flair. Toyota itself speaks of a “groundbreaking design”.
Inside, the Japanese use a lot of recycled plastic such as PET bottles for the seat covers. A 12.3-inch screen behind the steering wheel provides the driver with information – optionally combined with a head-up display. The touchscreen in the middle also measures 12.3 inches, and the developers placed the climate bar underneath. The updates come “over the air”, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard. The ambient lighting uses 64 colors, 24 color tones adapt to the course of the day.
The Safety Sense system is on board, now including acceleration suppression: If there is a risk of a collision when accelerating, the car reduces the speed. Also new is the proactive driving assistant, which automatically brakes before sharp bends.
The market launch is at the end of 2023, then there will also be prices.
The drives
Three drives on offer:
1.8 liter hybrid: The 72 kW 1.8 liter petrol engine is combined with a 70 kW electric motor. System output: 103 kW (140 hp). Consumption: 4.6 – 5.0 liters Super.
2.0-liter Hybrid: The four-cylinder delivers 112 kW, the electric motors contribute 83 (front) and 30 kW (rear). System performance: 145 kW (198 hp). In addition to the all-wheel drive, there is a front-wheel drive with the same performance, but the rear electric motor is missing.
2.0 liter plug-in hybrid: 164 kW (223 hp) system output, 66 kilometers electric range.
