President Luis Lacalle Pou lashed out this Tuesday, during his speech at the LXII summit of heads of state of Mercosurthe delays in closing the agreement with the European Union (EU), At the same time, he assured that he will not stop demanding a more flexible and modernization of the bloc.

Lacalle Pou, who predicted his Brazilian counterpart Lula da Silva “The best of luck” in the negotiations with the EU, also asked him to “be the generator of optimism in my already abundant pessimism around this agreement.” Brazil today assumes the pro tempore presidency of Mercosur.

Because 25 years of negotiations in the modern world is not logical, all the things that have changed in this time”, he reflected. “We know what are the things that we have in favor, we know what are the ones that we have against, let’s clear the obstacles to be able to culminate, among other things, because we need to give credibility to the particular actors so that trust is finally built,” he said.

The mention of artificial intelligence

Luis Lacalle Pou used the opportunity of his speech before his peers in Argentina, Alberto Fernandez; from Brazil and Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benitez –who was accompanied by the president-elect santiago pena– to introduce the debate on the role of artificial intelligence in the production of goods.

“I share some analyzes that are made, sometimes pessimistic, but it is true that the world is changing and our region has a unique opportunity. Not only because of the raw materials, but above all because of the intelligence of our people”, proposed the President of the Republic.

“In times when people talk about artificial intelligence, after all, everything comes from human intelligence and the commodities and raw materials increasingly need intellect to improve in this world that demands more and more quality”, he considered.
