to the situation of Refrigerator Cannelloniwhich had to send 700 workers to unemployment insurance when it stopped production, other factories in the metropolitan area joined, according to information accessed by Ámbito.com.

According to exclusive statements to this medium provided by Fernando Pachepresident of the Chamber of Industries of Uruguay (CIU)For more than a week now, there are companies that have suspended some production lines because they do not have adequate quality water provided by OSE, nor fresh water wells with the necessary volume.

The current situation in the industries of Montevideo and the metropolitan area demonstrates the worsening outlook for the productive sector as a consequence of the water crisis.

A month ago, the Chamber of Industry itself had warned, after disseminating a survey on the contingency plans of the factories, that 69% of the companies that use OSE water did not have an alternative plan in the face of water supply restrictions. or supply cut.

In turn, the survey revealed that 78% of these companies that do not have an alternative plan should suspend their production in the event of an affectation in the OSE water supply. On the other hand, 31% affirmed that they did have an alternative, and 76% said that they could substitute at least 50% of the service provided by the state company.

The first most resonant case at the public level so far is that of the Canelones Refrigerator, which at the end of June decided to halt its production and send 700 workers to unemployment insurance.
