Delgado described the recent meeting as “important”, and that two fundamental axes were touched upon: a general evaluation of the water emergency in the southern part of the country, and a “tuning up” of the works in the san jose river, which are expected to be completed in about 30 days. In turn, he added that the Executive Power is “coordinating these issues every day” with OSE.

As Delgado explained, the rains of the last few hours have contributed to OSE not having to take more drastic measures that have to affect the potability of the water in order to guarantee its supply to Montevideo and the metropolitan area. That is why, in addition to its suitability for human consumption, water continues to be useful for “other essential situations of its use,” added the presidential secretary.
“We will be evaluating in the next few hours what rained and what drains on Paso Severino and Santa Lucía”pointed out Delgado, who said that the salinity shot in the water due to the high levels of chloride and sodium registered in the pumping lines of the Paso Severino dam occurred “through a very complex and very difficult mixture” of different factors.
The rain of the last hours gave the government a break
In turn, he commented that “Yesterday’s rain situation and other decisions that were made allow us to ensure this level of water quality” supplied to the capital of the country and its surroundings, where more than 500,000 cubic meters are consumed per day.
Along these lines, he recalled that the desalination plant that was purchased from USAand which will arrive this month, “will not solve the background system”, but it will help to partially alleviate the high levels of chloride and sodium, since it has the capacity to desalinate about 150,000 cubic meters per day.
