Uruguay will start exporting minced meat to South Korea

The country will begin to export mince (not intact) towards South Korea, as announced by Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the addition of this product to the authorization of bovine meat to the Asian nation, something that will contribute to improve the current situation of the exports, They are going through a bad time today.

From the Foreign Ministry they valued this “new sign of confidence”, considering it “a result of technical work” developed jointly by the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP), along with the efforts of the embassy in korea, within the framework of a growing relationship between both countries.

At the same time, the Executive considered that with this measure “Uruguay continues to strengthen its presence in the international market and consolidating itself as a benchmark in the quality of its products”. In this sense, they indicated that this is how “the strategy of international economic insertion and access to the markets of Southeast Asia is reinforced”.

The Ministry said in a statement that “this achievement is a new sign of confidence on the part of the South Korean authorities in our production and health system.” In addition, he indicated that he “renews the commitment to continue working to increase the opening of markets, development of the productive sectors and the generation of employment, with the private sector and relevant national counterparts”.

The announcement comes in a context of decline in meat exports

According to the latest report from Uruguay XXI, beef exports they regressed 32% in the semester, due to lower production, a consequence of the lack of water, something that affected the pastures, but also due to the decrease in prices and placements compared to last year, in which the sector had reached record numbers.

That landslide and that of the soy, that fell 76% in the first part of the year, are offset by pulp placements, which became the main export product of the country, barely a month after the start of production in PSU 2.

At a general level, always according to the data from Uruguay XXI and in the midst of the worst drought of the century exports of goods fell 31% year-on-year in June and accumulated a fall of 18% in the semester, adding up 5,661 million dollars.
