The president of the Court of Auditors resigned from her position

The accountant Susana Díaz had been appointed to the position in 2017 by agreement of the parties with representation in the Senate.

The president of the Court of Auditors, Susana Diaz, resigned from his position accusing “health issues”. The accountant had been appointed to the position in 2017 based on an agreement between all the political parties that had representation in the Senate at that time.

The General Secretariat of the Tribunal is currently resolving the call for the person who will take over the position that remained vacant. Although it is speculated that whoever occupies the position is Linder Reyesfirst substitute of the accountant and representative of the National Party (NP)It is not yet known if he will take over, also for reasons related to health.

In this scenario, it is assumed that the new president would be Díaz’s second alternate, the General Director of Law at the University of the Republic, Mariana Gullawho belongs to Broad Front (FA).

Díaz’s management has been the subject of various criticisms in recent timesafter the FA withdrew its confidence due to the extension of the agreement with the Belgian company Katoen Natie in the port of Montevideo, and that the Multicolor Coalition questioned her for voting to observe the purchase of scanners for the National Customs Directorate by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).

The new presidency of the Court of Accounts will change the majority in favor of one party

This situation in which the two possible successors to Díaz belong to different parties could generate disagreements and the need for a new political agreement around the highest post in the Court of Accounts, whose vice president is the former senator of the PN, Francisco Gallinal.

Diaz’s election had followed the line of criteria adopted in 2010, of selecting someone of a “neutral” character to be in charge of the State control agencies: the Court of Accounts and the Electoral Court. Either options, Gulla or Kings, will change the majority of the Court of Accounts in favor of one of the parties.

Currently, the change of members in both organizations is blocked due to the lack of agreements between the parties with parliamentary representation, something that, for example, prevents the entry of a member of Town meeting in the Electoral Court.
