The fateful tour to the Ebensee Hochkogelhaus began for the 39-year-old on Wednesday around 9 a.m. Together with four other friends from the Czech Republic, she climbed the marked, but long and demanding path no. 230. Halfway through, however, she stumbled and hit her right knee on a rock, injuring herself.
When the weather deteriorated around 4 p.m., the warden of the Hochkogelhütte alerted the mountain rescue service. Two emergency helicopters had to abort the first rescue attempt due to the weather, and the Ebensee mountain rescue service then prepared a complex terrestrial rescue. It took about three hours for the emergency services to reach the injured person.
Due to a weather window, the emergency doctor helicopter was alerted again shortly after 7 p.m. Finally, the slightly hypothermic 39-year-old was taken to the Hochkogelhaus and then flown to the Salzkammergut Klinikum Bad Ischl. The demanding operation was not over until around 10:45 p.m.
