Air chaos next week? Defense faces two union conflicts

The second week of Winter Break 2023 promises to be complicated for those Uruguayans who have chosen to travel by plane to a rest destination: the air traffic controllers take-offs will be delayed from Monday to Sunday the 16th, while the civil aviation officials they could initiate protest measures.

In both cases the starting point is the same. Both claim that the Ministry of Defence breached labor agreements.

In the case of air traffic controllers, a negotiation instance failed on Tuesday in the field of Ministry of Labor and Social Security for the remuneration claim according to the valid qualifications; tuition fee; working conditions in air traffic services; implementation of payment to instructors; continuity of collective bargaining due to the restructuring of DINACIAamong others.

Then they announced a scheme of 4 hours of daily force measurements, in 2-hour shifts, which will affect takeoffs at Uruguayan airports from Monday to Sunday the 16th, that is, throughout the second week of winter vacation.

Meanwhile, last night the civil aviation union anticipated that it could initiate forceful measures next Thursday as a result of the lack of response from Defense in its claim for the feed item update.

According to the union, the ministry led by Javier García had promised to include an article in the Accountability to increase the game, but did not.

“From 2008 to date, the established food item was never adjusted, its amount being $100 per day worked, resulting in notoriously insufficient to fulfill its mission. It should be noted that they have paid even more than three months late,” said the union, reported Underlined.

If there is no rapprochement with the authorities, the union of civil aviation officials will begin to adopt measures “from 00:00 on Thursday, July 13, 2023,” the statement said.
