According to the city’s broadcast, Püschel prevailed against six other candidates at the hearing, and the hearing committee’s proposal was unanimous. Püschel has been with the magistrate since 2015, where he initially worked as office manager for the then infrastructure officer Markus Hein (FP) before taking over the department head of the road administration in 2021. From 2018 to 2022, the married father of four children was part of the supervisory board of Linz AG. Püschel gained his first professional experience as a court intern and as an associate.
Convinced in the hearing
The qualified lawyer is currently completing a bachelor’s degree in business law at the Johannes Kepler University in addition to his work. “Püschel convinced with a dynamic and professional appearance in the hearing. So of course I accepted the unanimous proposal of the commission,” says Mayor Klaus Luger (SP), who thanks Nemeth for his work. “With Püschel, we have a profound expert in the team who will contribute his networked way of thinking as well as innovative proposals for action for the important areas of health and sport,” say sports officer Deputy Mayor Karin Hörzing (SP) and City Councilor for Health Michael Raml (FP).
Puschel no stranger
Püschel made it into the media back in 2019. As OÖN reported at the time, a photo showed him taking part in an identity demonstration in Spielfeld. Püschel also acted as a representative of the organizers of the controversial “The Defenders of Europe” congress in 2018 in Aistersheim. He also appeared at the time as a co-owner of the far-right, pro-Russian glossy newspaper Info-Direkt.
Green disagree
For this reason, the Linz Greens are also protesting against the personnel decision. “We are not aware that Ulrich Püschel ever distanced himself from his activities in the extreme right-wing environment. Therefore, the Green Group will not approve of his appointment,” informs Helge Langer, chairman of the Green Linz club.
