The presidential marriage was received with applause and a corridor of young people dressed in the blue and white colors of the national flag, according to images broadcast on national television.
Both Ortega and Murillo spoke briefly with the polling station authorities and then cast their votes, without providing any statements.
The Nicaraguan president voted first, but had to double the ballot twice because it was too large and did not fit into the ballot box.
The gesture was imitated by his wife, once Ortega cast his vote.
After completing the corresponding procedures, the couple left with their thumbs up, stained by the ink used to certify the suffrage, while they were again applauded by those present, as reproduced by channel 6 live.
Nicaraguans elect this Sunday the presidential formula that will govern the country during the five-year period 2022-27, the 90 members of the National Assembly (unicameral parliament) and 20 deputies to the Central American Parliament.
In the electoral roll there are 4,478,334 citizens over 16 years of age with the right to vote, who may exercise their political will in 13,459 Vote Receiving Boards, distributed throughout the Nicaraguan geography.
