Actually, Anita and her daughter Hanna just happened to be in Linz’s old town on Saturday – and unexpectedly traveled a few centuries into the past. Numerous people had traveled from afar to attend the Knights’ Festival of the Upper Austrian Family Association at the weekend. For the first time since 2019, the event could take place again in its usual form. “There’s an incredible amount happening, the mood is very good. We’re also looking at a few program items now,” said Anita.
There was more than enough to see: the main square was transformed into a tournament ground, where knights in full armor rode at each other with lances. On the main stage, minstrels entertained the audience with medieval songs and stories. Throughout the old town, jugglers and acrobats enchanted the audience with their performances. At the numerous stalls there were refreshments, a refreshment in between or to buy souvenirs.

In addition to the tournaments, a special highlight was the fire spectacle at the end of the festival. The event attracted a total of 40,000 visitors – many of whom even came from abroad and dressed in medieval robes. “My brother lives in Munich, I in Lucerne. We met here because the Linz Knights’ Festival is particularly big and beautiful,” says Alexandra Pushchina. The event was a complete success for the Upper Austrian Family Association. “We would like to thank the visitors and participants for the successful festival and are already looking forward to next year,” says chairman Martin Hajart.
