Vitouch was a professor at the Institute for Journalism and Communication Sciences at the University of Vienna for many years. He was also a member of the ORF audience council from 2010 to 2014.
Vitouch was born in Vienna on May 3, 1947 and studied psychology at the University of Vienna, where he also habilitated in 1986. From 1987 to 2012 he held a professorship at the Institute for Journalism and Communication Sciences. From 1997 to 2003 he was also Deputy Chair of the Senate of the University of Vienna and then Vice Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
In addition to his scientific work, Vitouch was a sought-after discussion partner in media psychology. Vitouch was married to the former ORF presenter (“Am dam des”) and Viennese SPÖ councilor Elisabeth Vitouch. His son Oliver is also a psychologist and is currently rector of the University of Klagenfurt, his second son Anatol is an author.
