For months the opposition has been seeking to stop the sanction of the reform that would eliminate the power of veto of the Supreme Court over government decisions.

In the midst of the parliamentary debate for judicial reform in Israela group of protesters entered the Knesset (Congress) to protest against the initiative promoted by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The president of the Constitution, Legislation and Justice Commission, Simcha Rothman, for his part, defended a “balanced” and “responsible” law and generated protests from opposition deputies. Besides, three deputies from the centrist opposition party Yesh Atid were expelled of the plenary due to interruption.

Netanyahu had defended in a video published before the vote that this initiative to remove “reasonableness” “It is not the end of democracy, but rather reinforces it“.

Judicial reform returns and the conflict returns to Israel

The Government resumed the processing by parts of the judicial reform proposal while negotiations with the opposition are suspended.
