The minister of Economy and Finance (MEF), lily arbelechepresented yesterday before the Budget Committee, integrated together with the Treasury, the project of Accountability which, among several of the highlights, includes an increase in spending to allocate it to mental health.
As of this Tuesday, the parliamentarians will receive the different organizations linked to the main points of the initiative, which provides the budgetary framework for the final stretch of the government of Luis Lacalle Pou.
For Friday, the space was set for social and union organizations who request it can expose before the legislators, reported Prensa Latina.
August 18 is the deadline for the legislature to decide on government Accountability. It will be weeks of dialogue to reallocate unexecuted resources for areas where it is needed, stated the president of the Budget Committee, Juan Martin Rodriguezof the National Party. “We will try to try to be as fair as possible,” she said.
For his part, the deputy of Broad Front (FA), Gustavo Olmossaid that with this project “the cut that has occurred throughout this period is maintained.”
He criticized that “the educational transformation, which is a flag that the government has used with great force, does not have a weight in the text to carry it forward” in the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP)neither for the University of the Republicnor the Technological University.
Arbeleche defended the increase in public spending
The Minister of Economy, Azucena Arbeleche, announced that public spending will increase some 20 million dollars, of which most will go to the Ministry of Social Development (Mides) and the mental health area as promised at the beginning of June. The budget increase for programs focused on mental health and addictions was defined by President Luis Lacalle Pou as a “priority.”
On the other hand, Arbeleche highlighted an increase in real wages in a 1% in general, 0.7% in the public and 1.2% in the private. In this same sense, a tax reduction of 150 million dollars was achieved, marked by measures to increase disposable income for individuals with the purpose of Personal Income Tax (IRPF) and the Social Security Assistance Tax (IASS).
