Temperatures of more than 40 degrees Celsius are measured in Italy, in Sardinia it was 43 degrees on Tuesday. Meteorologists named the heat wave “Cerberus” after the multi-headed hellhound. The Ministry of Health declared a heat emergency for larger cities.
In Spain, hot air from Africa causes temperatures of up to 44 degrees, measured in Andalusia and Aragon. And Greece is preparing for the first major heat wave of the year: temperatures in Athens are expected to rise to 45 degrees on Saturday. Meteorologists fear that the hot spell will last longer.
In the southern United States, from California to Texas to Florida, more than 50 million people are facing a heat wave in the coming days. According to the National Weather Service, a so-called heat dome has formed over the affected states. “Cut out outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.,” the weather service advised.
