He Ministry of Foreign Relations (MRREE) announced today that the Foreign Trade Committee of Ecuador provided for a temporary reduction to 0% of the tariff rateas well as the suspension of the application of the Andean Price Band System, for the remainder of the year to import a quota of 63,246 tons of semi-milled or milled rice from Uruguay.

This improvement in the tariff conditions for the access of Uruguayan rice placements to the Andean country complements the phytosanitary authorization that had recently been achieved by the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Ecuador.

This is because the requirements to sell to the South American country include a certificate stating that a sanitary treatment has been carried out prior to shipment, that the shipment is free of soil or other foreign material, and that it is made with new packaging. First use, they specified from the MGAP.

The resolution of the South American country came after several negotiations between high authorities of both countries, such as those developed from the embassies of Uruguay in Ecuador, and Ecuador in Uruguay, as well as various Ecuadorian ministries.

The MGAP believes that rice exports to Ecuador will help the trade balance

The holder of the MGAP, fernando mattoshad pointed out that Ecuador “is not a traditional market” for our country, but appreciated that from now on there are “very good possibilities that this year we can take advantage of this window to improve our export equation”.

Minister Mattos himself had already anticipated a possible total tariff reduction by the Ecuadorian authorities, a charge that today is located, according to the regulations of the Latin American Integration Association (Aladi)in a 3. 4%.

In recent days, it has also been confirmed that Uruguay will export non-GM rapeseed grains to Mexico. The measure is framed within the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) maintained by both countries, so it has no tariff incidence.
