The girl was traveling with her 37-year-old mother in a pedal boat on Lake Wörthersee. The woman wanted to dock the boat at a jetty in Velden and tie the boat down, while the child was already on the jetty. When the woman let her daughter out of sight for a moment, she disappeared a short time later, the police said in a broadcast.
Several people immediately started looking for the girl. After a few minutes, it was found by a bather at a depth of about two and a half meters and pulled out of the water without any vital signs. The eleven-year-old was finally resuscitated and flown to the Klagenfurt Clinic in a rescue helicopter.
