In view of the right-wing extremist activities and the resulting house searches in Desselbrunn, there is concern in the Vöcklabruck district. Vöcklabruck Mayor Peter Schobesberger (SPÖ) met with representatives of the alliance “Vöcklabruck against the right”. The topic of conversation was the danger emanating from the violent supporters of groups associated with the so-called “Austrians”. Together they discussed how to effectively counteract this. Schobesberger and his interlocutors spoke out in favor of closer cooperation between local politicians and groups involved in civil society.
“I’m concerned about developments in recent years,” says Schobesberger. “We see increasingly harsh language, indifference when children are drowning at sea, and government officials questioning human rights. And now the found weapons and Nazi flags. I’m terrified and hopefully I’m not alone in this.”
A further exchange with the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the Mauthausen Committee and other organizations is now to take place. The population should be informed about the dangers. The goal must be a peaceful coexistence, the participants of the meeting explain.
“Vöcklabruck should continue to be a cosmopolitan city in which everyone can feel comfortable,” says Sonja Lang, chairwoman of the “Vöcklabruck Against Right” alliance. “Right-wing extremist ideas that stir up racism and hatred in society definitely have no place here. “
