Three girls and two boys were properly received at a welcome barbecue for the Lions youth exchange on the Kranzling. The host parents and members of the Lions Club Rohrbach-Boehmerwald were there. Its President Gerald Mayrhofer welcomed the young people in their national language, which made the young people smile at first.
For a week, the diverse group got to know the country and people as well as the special features of the Mühlviertel. Right at the start, the young people visited the tent festival in Arnreit together with peers from their host families, were guests at the morning pint in St. Stefan-Afiesl, hiked up the Dreisesselberg and cooled off by swimming in the Große Mühl on the Kranzling. A trip to the Lipno Bike Park was particularly fun, combined with spectacular descents on downhill scooters.
Lions member Harald Dobersberger, who has been organizing the youth exchange with his wife Andrea for 15 years, is convinced of this type of youth encounter: “Our guests get to know our culture and our way of life. In return, our young people learn a lot about the special features of other countries . Deep friendships develop, some of which last a lifetime. For us, the youth exchange is a peace project.”
So far, Andrea and Harald Dobersberger have enabled around 85 young people to stay in Upper Austria. In return, seven young people from the Rohrbach district were able to enjoy a stay abroad in 2023.
