CAF will finance works for US0,000 to mitigate the impact of the drought

He Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) signed with the CAF-Development Bank of Latin America an agreement for $250,000 to advance with works that help mitigate the impact of the prolonged drought that affects the country.

The agreement, to which other $73,000 that will be borne by the MGAP, will finance 19 collective solutions in 5 departments which include the construction of wells and cutwaters, as well as the installation of pumping systems, distribution lines and drinkers.

the minister fernando mattos stressed that the agreement will benefit “more than 109 families or facilities of both public education and public health that comprise those communities. When justifying the initiative, he highlighted: “They are collective solutions to generate the necessary water sources.”

In this sense, he pointed out that the works will be carried out in the most affected areas because of the drought The selection of the beneficiaries is based on the assessment of the areas most affected by the successive droughts between 2020 and 2023 and also considered the human development index (IDH) of each of these localities. Thus, it will be applied Cerro Largo, Treinta y Tres, Artigas, Lavalleja and Florida.

“We know that, recurrently, different departments have to assist rural populations due to lack of water availability,” he indicated and admitted that “There are many people left outside”, but he warned: “This is going to be an important indication for a much more ambitious future plan that we have been working on with the Executive Branch.”

In turn, the CAF representative in Uruguay, François Borit, He stressed that technical cooperation aims to provide a solution in the midst of a drought. “We have the purpose of Improve Life Quality of the citizens of this region. The MGAP extended grazing on public roads for 30 days

On the other hand, the MGAP extended for 30 days the authorization of cattle grazing on public roads in various areas of the country, in the midst of the Agricultural Emergency in force and forecasts of more difficulties for producers.

Thus it arises from a resolution of the General Directorate of Livestock Services (DGSG), which covers Canelones, Cerro Largo, Colonia, Durazno, Flores, Florida, Rocha, San José, Soriano and Treinta y Tres, as well as sectors of Artigas, Lavalleja, Maldonado, Paysandú, Río Negro, Rivera, Salto and Tacuarembó.
