Neustadt has only existed as a district in its own right since the end of the 19th century. In 1898, the then municipal committee (today the municipal council) decided to name the district north of the railway line “Neustadt”.

In a district survey, it was now asked how the residents rate their district. The questionnaire was filled out 163 times. The respondents indicated a medium (around 50 percent) to high level of satisfaction (around 26 percent). Not quite 45 percent rated the immediate living environment as medium (around 32 percent) to very satisfied (around 30 percent).

The residents of Neustadt are more critical of the development of their district over the past ten years. The assessment here is medium (around 43 percent) to rather bad (around 26 percent).

A number of measures that could contribute to good development are also listed. Mobility (speed limits, more parking spaces, expansion of bicycle and public transport), more green spaces and more local suppliers and resident doctors rank at the top. For their safety, the people of Neustadt want more police presence and stronger controls. Drug and alcohol consumption are perceived as the greatest safety problem.

The people of Neustadt see the quality of the city administration positively. More than 50 percent rated the municipal services as “very good” or “good”. “The survey provided city politicians with important information. All suggestions are checked individually and implemented where possible. In this way, the quality of life in Neustadt is to be gradually improved,” says City Councilor Ralph Schäfer (FP), who is responsible for urban development.
