The Director of Tourism Cologne, Martin de Freitasstressed that the quality of the water in the city, highly chosen by Argentines for tourist getaways, is the same as always, while denying that the cancellations as a result of the water crisis will cause significant economic damage to the sector.

De Freitas, in dialogue with scope.comsaid that, after some cancellations suffered by a large hotel in Colonia for fear of water quality, the mayor verified that the same situation was faced by other hotels in the department.

“This occurred as a result of misinformation or false information about the water problem that Montevideo and the metropolitan area, but that Colonia and the rest of the Uruguay fortunately it does not have, ”he said.

Colonia has the same water quality as alwaysIt has enough water. We are not in any kind of risk,” stressed De Freitas, who explained that the Tourism Directorate communicated with SBIthe Executive and the Ministry of Tourism to warn of the situation.

Indeed, the Minister of Tourism himself, Tabare Vierablamed the cancellations made by Argentine tourists in Colonia to the “exaggerated” media coverage of the problem, to which he added the statements of the president Alberto Fernandezwho had commented last weekend that in Montevideo “they open the faucets and the water does not come out.”

“I honestly think it’s a unfair damage and we are not used to working like this”, lamented De Freitas, who, however, considered that he does not believe “that it can be considered that this is of sufficient magnitude to cause great economic damage.” “It stopped on time and did what had to be done,” he said, although he acknowledged that he did not know at the moment the number of tourist cancellations that Colonia registered.
