The 18-year-old from Unterweißenbach drove his car at 5:30 p.m. on Königswiesener Straße B 124 in the direction of Pierbach. Shortly after the town of Mönchdorf, he overtook a car driving in front of him. In doing so, he got into the oncoming lane in a right-hand curve, left the lane and was catapulted up at the next embankment of a house driveway. The vehicle overturned several times in the sloping meadow and came to a standstill on its wheels.
Immediately added uninvolved drivers and police officers who were witnesses to the accident tried to help the trapped young man. The crashed driver had to be rescued from the wreck by the fire brigade. However, the emergency medical team of the rescue helicopter could only determine the death of the accident driver.
“No everyday use”
For the volunteer fire brigade Königswiesen it was a stressful operation. Many knew the victim personally, as did compulsory area commander Karl Hüttmannsberger. “After arriving, we saw how serious the consequences are for those affected,” he says in an interview with OÖN. The first aid measures could no longer stabilize the victim. In such situations, the younger comrades are kept away from direct action and entrusted with security tasks, while the experienced ones are directly “at the front”.
Professional support
Nevertheless, such an operation is not commonplace. Immediately afterwards there was a meeting in the team, which was also accompanied professionally. “You can tell that the atmosphere in the team is very demanding in a situation like this,” says Hüttmannsberger. He also told his comrades that it would not be the last such situation. “We’ve had a lot of missions where we’ve been able to help successfully, that has to be the goal. If you can only save someone’s life once, then the mission has been worth it.”
A total of two teams from the Red Cross, an emergency medical team from the Christopherus rescue helicopter and 40 to 50 firefighters were deployed yesterday.
