Mario Bergara assured that there are no grounds for merging the BHU and the BROU

The senator and former minister of Economy and Finance (MEF) for him Broad Front (FA), Mario Bergaraassured in a press conference that “there are no foundations” to consider the government’s proposal that seeks to merge the Republic Bank (BROU) with the Mortgage Bank (BHU) as a solution to the problem of debtors in Indexed Units (UI) from the last batch.

According to Bergara, the proposal “fell from the sky without anyone discussing it before” and did not go through “any study”. “In parliamentary jargon, when the Executive Branch sends a bill, it sends it with a statement of reasons,” she slipped.

The senator went further and maintained that “this is not mandated by the Executive, but rather it’s smuggled in as substituting a project for a theme that isn’t too closely associated with itwhich is that of the debtors of the BHU”.

For Bergara, the measure only means “eliminating the BHU, and generating a unit for mortgage loans in the BROU” without this having “a statement of reasons” or being able to know its technical “foundation”.

“One has to be open to evaluating and studying these issues”, as long as there is “a process in which it is said what are the reasons why this is raised, and what are the advantages and disadvantages of doing it or not”, but “none of that is on the table,” he shot.

The former head of the MEF highlighted the solidity of both banks and their “important” assets as another factor that makes it difficult to understand a possible annex between them. “We know that this government has a fundamentalist and ideological desire to shrink the State”he pointed.

The Minister of Housing was against suppressing the Mortgage Bank

Last Friday, the Minister of Housing and Territorial Planning (MVOT), Raul Lozano, He expressed his disagreement with suppressing the BHU and merging it with the BROU in the project that seeks to solve the problem of debtors.

Despite having been one of the senators who participated in the drafting of the project in question, along with the nationalists Sergio Botana and Carlos Camy, and Germán Coutinho from Colorado, Lozano rejected the fact that the idea of a merger or absorption was included. of the BHU.

Although his party, Cabildo Abierto, has not yet defined its position on the matter, the current minister maintained in dialogue with Diamante FM that it is not in the plans of his political force for the state bank to “disappear.”
