The police announced this on Monday. A spokeswoman for the emergency services said, according to the agency CTK, that 76 people were injured, 14 of them seriously. The rescue workers were deployed with a large contingent, including more than 20 ambulances and several medical teams. Three helicopters brought seriously injured people to the hospital.
One of the buses was a Flixbus line connection from Budapest to Prague. The company is working closely with the responsible local authorities to clarify the course of the accident, a spokeswoman said.
According to information from the authorities, an Indian tour group was said to have traveled with the other bus. According to the initial findings of the police, this coach drove onto the Flixbus on Monday afternoon for reasons that are still unclear.
The accident occurred on the D2 motorway in southern Moravia near Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic. The lanes were closed for hours in both directions. There were long traffic jams. The D2 motorway leads from the Czech-Slovak border crossing Lanzhot-Kuty to Brno.
