“A concert made in heaven” – anyone who has walked through the city in the past few weeks could hardly miss the gold posters with Freddie Mercury and Falco. Never found together in real life, the rock stars do so in the homage “Falco meets Queen”: a concert show in which performers Sascha Lien and Axel Herrig will pay tribute to the world-famous musical heritage. The duo and band will bring the show to the stage nine times, all under the direction of long-time director and festival founder Karl-Michael Ebner: “Back to the roots – you can see this trend, whether in fashion, in clubbing, otherwise where. The time and its icons live more than ever.”
The music festival is of great importance for tourism. “At the moment, around 65 percent of our visitors are tourists, coming from Vienna, Salzburg and the Bavarian region, for example. We’ve worked on that over the years,” says Ebner.
Another item on the program is the “Cinema under the starry sky”. The moat becomes the backdrop for the open-air cinema, more precisely for the comedies “Greece or the Running Chicken” (July 31) and “Mamma ante Portas” (August 1).
The Steyrdorf Gallery is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Works by those artists who have shaped the exhibition events of the last three decades are shown on two floors in the palace gallery. A special offer for children and young people is called “Reading”. This aims to support people with reading difficulties. Reading skills are to be promoted in workshops based on the five senses. Pre-school children up to the age of 12 can take part, a workshop costs eight euros.
The music festival is also certified as a “Green Event” by the state of Upper Austria. “Green” because the event is planned and implemented in a resource-saving manner: avoidance of waste through reusable containers, regional and organically certified food, possible public transport and barrier-free access.
Tickets for the festival are available at www.musikfestivalsteyr.at.
