Numerous Austrian artists and visitors head to Kirchdorf at the weekend when the “Rock im Dorf” festival of the cultural association of the same name takes place from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 July. Organized on a voluntary basis, around 180 volunteers work on an environmentally friendly implementation. The festival is certified as a green event by the state of Upper Austria.
“The site can be easily reached by train and a short walk and is barrier-free. We act in a resource-saving manner wherever possible – there are only reusable containers on the site, and waste is also separated precisely,” says festival director Erich Pöttinger. The focus of the musical program on Friday and Saturday is local, alternative musicians. On Fridays, among others, the indie-punk newcomer Anda Morts from Linz can be seen, as well as the rap and R&B avant-garde artist Eli Preiss from Vienna, who is aspiring in the German music scene.
On Saturday, 17-year-old pop singer and promising Amadeus Award winner Oskar Haag will perform his anthems, as will successful indie pop trio Sharktank and many other acts. For the first time, artists will also take part in the playful afternoon program.
“Oskar Haag will be there for the pub quiz, Yasmo & the Klangkantine for the chariot race. So there’s also a certain closeness to the audience,” says Pöttinger. On Sunday it will be less rocky, but more hearty and family-friendly, when the Weinzierl-Altpernstein music club plays and a children’s program is available.
Festival guests can camp at the adjacent Kirchdorfer Teich. The organizer expects up to 2300 visitors per day. Tickets are available at rockimdorf.at or at GEA Kirchdorf and Bar-Café Hildegard. (gra)
