Salinity improvement?
For more than a week, precisely since the 10th of this month, the salinity in the water began to drop considerably until Sunday, when some of the lowest levels were recorded according to the standards imposed by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) of 720mg/l for chlorides, and 440mg/l for sodium. However, yesterday there was a small increase in salinity compared to the last report.
According to the latest report, the pumping line 4 that supplies the center of the capital of the country, the measurement of the daily average of chlorides reached 121mg/l and the 104mg/l of sodium. In the pumping line 5 that supplies water to the western zone of Montevideo and surroundings, the chlorides reached 108mg/l and sodium to 97mg/l. In turn, in the pump line 6 that supplies the east of the capital and its surroundings, the daily records of chlorides were 115mg/l and those of sodium 101mg/l.
It’s not all good news
While from the National Administration of State Sanitary Works (OSE) celebrate the gradual increase in reserves, their workers declared conflict on Sunday due to the lack of people and investment by the state health company.
The Federation of Officials of OSE (FFOSE) He denounced, through a statement, that the situation of OSE, regarding the lack of personnel, “has reached a limit” and that is why it is declared in conflict. From the union they established that “the water crisis has shown that the OSE is totally disarmed, that the lack of personnel is critical”.
On the other hand, they establish that for years they have carried out a “consistent complaint regarding the lack of personnel in OSE and the consequences it has when providing the drinking water and sanitation service.” That is why they stressed that they have “no choice” but to demonstrate that, if the slightest measure is taken, as not doing homework after hours or on a weekendthe impact on OSE will show that their jobs are irreplaceable and that more staff is needed.
