According to the law passed by the Duma on Tuesday, men who have completed their service without further obligation can be called up until the age of 40, 50 or 55, depending on their category. In all cases, the age limit has been raised by five years, the House of Commons website said.
Russia also maintains a reserve of men who have signed up for regular training and remuneration after completing military service. Here the age limits for the highest ranks were raised to 70 instead of 65, other senior officers to 65, junior officers to 60 and all others to 55 instead of 45.
The maximum age for military service has already been raised from 27 to 30. It has also become more difficult for young men to avoid conscription. Against the background of the Ukraine war, Russia announced its first mobilization since the Second World War in September. More than 300,000 former soldiers were called up. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has announced plans to increase the total number of professional soldiers and conscripts from 1.15 million to 1.5 million.
