The dream of quick and big money has ended in a huge loss for a man from Salzburg in the past few weeks. On the advice of an internet acquaintance, the 28-year-old allegedly “invested” money in cryptocurrencies and repeatedly transferred four- and five-digit amounts to various accounts and so-called wallets. When he asked about the first payout, the contact suddenly broke off. The man lost over 100,000 euros to the scammers.
About a month ago, the man from Salzburg met an alleged Dutch woman on a dating platform, who finally persuaded him to invest in cryptocurrencies because you can quickly win a lot of money here. After about a month, the 28-year-old asked when he could expect an initial payment, and contact was then broken off, a police spokesman said. As a result, he filed a complaint.
