More than 460,000 people left the country, with Argentina as the favorite destination

Most of the Uruguayans took the opportunity to go to the neighboring country, due to the exchange difference and the rise of the blue dollar.

A total of 460,708 people traveled from Uruguay to other countries during the Winter Break, with Argentina as a preferred destination, according to the data provided by the Ministry of Interior, that surveyed the tourist flow between June 30 and last Tuesday the 18th.

The vast majority of tourists chose Argentine lands due to the exchange difference with that country, in a context of escalation of the blue dollar, which reached new record values. At least 370,000 Uruguayans they traveled to the neighboring country, according to a calculation that takes into account only the places of departure to there. Instead, for the points that are going to Brazil passed less than 15,000.

According to data from migrations, of the total there were 109,852 people who left for Paysandu, being the border with the greatest flow. It was followed by the 90,195 that passed through Friar Bentos, 86,227 per Leap, 84,106 per Cologne and 51,556 for the Carrasco International Airport.

Much further back appear the 17,911 who used the Port of Montevideo, the 4,627 of Chuy, 4,477 who crossed through Rivera, 3,955 per white river and 7,802 for other points, according to data from Uruguayan and Argentine authorities.

Receptive tourism, with a similar level

On the other hand, despite the fact that the government spoke of a “slow start” for winter rest, during the same period 454,683 people entered the country. Among them, the largest number were uruguayans (337,571), followed by Argentines (57,091), brazilian (31,549), Chileans (5,000) and Americans (3,810).

When evaluating routes of entry, Paysandú was the main one, with the arrival of 105,132 people, followed by Fray Bentos with 94,644, Colonia with 87,576 people and Salto with 84,561 people. A little further back appeared the Carrasco International Airport with 41,589 people and the port of Montevideo with 17,748 people.
