The all-clear comes from the BMW engine plant in Steyr: As reported, fire had recently broken out on a construction site in the plant. Dense clouds of black smoke lay over the company premises and could be seen from afar. A company spokesman said the cause of the fire was still unclear, but that negligence or third-party fault could be ruled out.
As reported, bitumen caught fire on a flat roof. This could also be due to the high temperatures of the past few days. The property damage is minor and can be remedied relatively easily. “Construction site operations were fully resumed as early as Monday morning,” says a spokesman for the engine plant.
The schedule for the construction project and the start of electric drive production were not affected in any way by the event. Pre-series production will start as planned in mid-2024.
