Normally, wild boars populate the forests around the small town of Kleinmachnow in Brandenburg. As reported, a lioness has now apparently joined the animals of the forest. The area is on high alert, the population has been called on to be vigilant and pets should not be allowed outside.
The unusual forest dweller came about through a cell phone video that the police viewed and considered credible. After the encounter of the witnesses with the animal at night, there was also a sighting by the police, according to the authorities.
“There was a possible sighting of the animal in the south of Berlin near the city limits of Brandenburg,” said the Berlin police on Thursday afternoon. More than 100 forces are deployed, supported by a helicopter, veterinarians and hunters.
The origin of the animal is still unclear because no corresponding facility – zoo, animal park, animal protection facility – misses the lioness. This indicates that the big cat could have been kept private. However, it should not have been officially registered – in any case, the authorities currently do not know anything about a lion husbandry in the district.
During Thursday afternoon, the police let it be known that the animal could be in Zehlendorf. If necessary, officials would ensure that veterinarians could safely stun the animal.
