The Trade Union Association of Cooperatives and Transport Workers (Ascot) summoned a unemployment 24 hour bus which is in force since last night and will last until late today. The measure responds to “a strong aggression” suffered by a worker.

The bus service will be affected throughout the day after a worker was “victim of a strong assault” and the union decided to carry out a 24-hour strike that mainly affects cooperatives: Coectc, Come, Ucot and Copsa.

For Ascot, the attack was “one more of many that They are occurring with increasing frequency and aggressiveness“, as they found in the statement they published on Wednesday.

The measure affected from “night services” on Wednesday, and provides for “reimbursement” from tonight’s services, although the affected companies have emergency services.

In addition to the strike, Ascot called a assembly on the ground of the Transportation Workers Cooperative Union (UCOT) at 11, to then mobilize until the Municipality of Montevideo (IM). “The participation of all is important, since it involves us and directly affects the entire group,” the statement concluded.

A claim for safety

The demands for greater security for drivers and bus service workers this is not new at Ascot: a month ago, the union called another walkout after a bus driver was stabbed to death Line G. while doing his shift.

From the union they demand that their safety be guaranteed against the constant robberies and attacks on drivers. At that time, and after the dangerous episode, they insisted that “life comes first”. This claim is repeated again after the aggression suffered by another worker, which prompted the measures of force.
