There is good news, at least for those suffering from the heat: According to Alexander Ohms, meteorologist at GeoSphere Austria, the heat wave of the past few days and weeks has ended for the time being and will be replaced by cooler and more unstable weather.

Already today, the temperatures in the federal state will not reach more than 26 degrees. “Towards the afternoon, heavy thunderstorms form from the southern mountains and in the Bohemian Forest region, which can penetrate into the lowlands”says Ohms. Saturday would be similar.

Cool prospects

Ohms expects that on Sunday “only real summer day” with temperatures of up to 32 degrees and only light clouds. “If you plan to go swimming, you should keep Sunday free”, says the meteorologist. Although Monday started out similarly hot, according to Ohms, heavy thunderstorms with the potential for severe weather would occur over the state from noon.

According to forecast models, in the next two weeks the summer would allow itself a weak phase with cooler temperatures. “It could well be that the hottest days of the year are already behind us”says Ohms.
