A mountain hike on the 1691 high Traunstein ended in hospital for a mountaineer from the Wels-Land district: After an overnight stay at the Gmundnerhütte, the 55-year-old was on Thursday morning when descending the Mairalm-Steig at the level of the so-called Bründl (1150 m). fell. She injured her leg so badly that she could no longer climb down.
A team from the Gmunden Mountain Rescue Service prepared to transport the people by stretcher because the bad weather made it unclear at first whether a rescue by helicopter would be possible. When it cleared up quickly, the emergency doctor helicopter Martin 3 climbed up to the injured person. She was rescued with a rope, brought to the intermediate landing site on the Mairalm and then to the Salzkammergut Klinikum Gmunden.
The two companions descended independently into the valley. Five men from the Gmunden rescue service, the crew of the NAH Martin 3 and an officer from the Gmunden Alpine Police were on duty, the police said on Friday. Only last weekend were alpine police, mountain rescue and helicopters deployed in the region after a young Upper Austrian decided to camp in the steep cliffs of the Traunstein.
