The avatar is intended to help the sick girl to take part in activities and to establish and maintain contact with her friends, the city of St. Veit announced in a broadcast on Friday.
The robot, which is around 30 centimeters high and weighs 1.5 kilograms, is used in the St. Donat kindergarten. Hannah’s illness not only makes it difficult to impart knowledge, her mother says her social contacts have also been greatly reduced. She hopes that will improve with the mini avatar. “We play with Hannah using the avatar, do handicrafts, have a snack and even take her into the garden with us,” explained kindergarten director Sylvia Greiler.
Hannah can even control robots
In contrast to what is otherwise the case with tele-learning, Hannah can control the robot: With a flashing light signal, she can speak up in the kindergarten group, and to keep an eye on what is happening in the kindergarten, she can use a tablet from home turn their avatar’s head. The avatar in the kindergarten is financed by donations.
