“As Bill (for Burns) says: Good intelligence, delivered with honesty and integrity, is America’s first line of defense. Since his first day in office, Bill has demonstrated the meaning of those words,” the Democratic president said in a statement.

“Bill has always provided a clear and direct analysis that prioritizes the security of the American people, reflecting the role played by the CIA in our national security decision-making at this critical time,” Biden said in the writing.
Thus, Biden further promotes an official he has already sent on face-to-face missions in Russia and China to tackle America’s most pressing security issues.
Burns traveled to Russia in November 2021 to warn President Vladimir Putin not to launch an invasion of Ukraine, despite which the ruler decided to start the war just a few months later, in February 2022.
Already in June of this year, Biden sent Burns to Beijingwhere he met with his Chinese intelligence counterparts in an effort to lay the groundwork for future high-level contacts between the two superpowers.
Burns will thus occupy a cabinet post after achieving a promotion that is unusual in US politics, based on his effectiveness as director of the CIA, according to laudatory comments expressed by Biden and disseminated by the Europa Press news agency.
