However, there are now signs of a trend reversal: the costs of building houses and housing estates fell again in June – and thus for the third time in a row. According to Statistics Austria, the construction cost index was 124.1 points, 0.2 percent below the previous year’s value and 0.7 percent below the index level in May.
The drop in prices for bridge construction was even clearer. Here the price fell by 4.2 percent year-on-year. Road construction, on the other hand, rose by 0.8 percent compared to the same period last year – but the price fell by 0.1 percent compared to May of this year. Sanitary engineering, on the other hand, has risen by 2.2 percent since June 2022. But here, too, the costs fell by 0.1 percent compared to the previous month.
