A large forest fire is out of control. Hundreds of tourists had to be brought to safety in Coast Guard buses and boats. Affected are hotels on the Kiotari coast, which is around 55 kilometers south of the city of Rhodes.
“You can hardly breathe”
This was reported by state radio. “It is the most difficult fire we have to deal with,” said a spokesman for the Greek fire brigade. Force six winds blow in the Rhodes region. “The smoke is so strong that you can hardly breathe. People are being taken to the small town of Gennadi, from where they are to be accommodated in other hotels,” said Konstantinos Traraslias, deputy mayor of Rhodes, to the Athens news channel Skai.
