Not far from the Danube bridge, at kilometer 191, several head-sized stones fell onto the road. Police officers, who were alerted around 12 p.m., removed the boulders. At the same time, about a kilometer further on, the next traffic obstacle was reported: Two trees had not only fallen across the street but also protruded into the tracks of the Donauuferbahn.
Train service stopped
Train traffic was stopped, the B3 from the Danube bridge in Grein to the cemetery crossing in Saxen was closed and a wide-ranging detour was set up. Forces from the Grein volunteer fire brigade arrived to do the clean-up work, then a geologist from the state of Upper Austria, a forest administrator and the journal service from the BH Perg examined the wooded area next to the road.
No acute danger
The experts were able to quickly give the all-clear, according to the country’s geologist, “no acute threat could be identified.” The roadblock on the B3 was lifted around 2:35 p.m. after a good two and a half hours.
