Hungarian leader says the EU rejects his Christian heritage by allowing migrants to arrive

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban lashed out at the European Union (EU) today with an anti-migration speech based on a conspiracy theory in which he accused the regional bloc of “rejecting its Christian heritage” by mixing the local population with non-European migrants.

“The EU rejects its Christian heritage and organizes population exchanges through migration,” declared the ultra-conservative leader in a speech delivered in the Romanian city of Transylvania, at the Tusványos festival, which this year is celebrated under the motto “The hour of peace”.

Orban, who opposes the European reform on asylum for foreigners, a system that establishes common minimum criteria for the entire bloc, was referring to the so-called “great replacement”, an extreme right-wing conspiracy theory according to which the elites would be replacing European populations with non-European immigrants.

“The Great Replacement” argues that the European Christian white population is being systematically replaced with non-European peoples, specifically Arabs, Berbers, Levantines, North Africans, and Sub-Saharans, through mass immigration, population growth, and a drop in the European birth rate, with the potential danger of destroying European culture and civilization.

The Hungarian prime minister also criticized “the federalist government in Europe” leading “to an irresponsible empire” and an alleged “LGBTIQ+ offensive by the EU against family-friendly European nations”.

“We have no choice: even if we love Europe, even if it is our home, we have to fight to defend our Christian roots,” insisted the nationalist prime minister, in power since 2010.
