At least nine people died and another 25 were injured in Colombia when the collective in which they were traveling fell this Saturday off a cliff in the department of Santander, authorities reported.
The accident happened around 4.20 local time (6.20 Argentine time) on the route that connects Cúcuta with the town of Bucaramanga, capital of the department, in the northeast of the country. The accident occurred when the bus lost track and fell about 100 meters down a ravine.

“So far the authorities manage a figure of 9 people dead, 25 injured treated” in hospitals in the area, Dudwing Villamizar, spokesman for the Santander Civil Defense, told the AFP news agency.
On the bus 41 people were traveling and among the passengers there were four minors, according to official information. In images shared by the Civil Defense, the vehicle is observed in the midst of bushes and scattered clothing.
Another bus accident in Colombia
On Tuesday eight people died in the head-on collision of a bus with a tractor-trailer in the department of La Guajira. In this case, the road accident occurred on the route that goes from the capital, Riohacha, to the tourist municipality of Palominoaccording to a message from the authorities to the press.
Colonel Francisco Javier Castro, one of the authorities in charge, assured hours after the accident and through a video that “at this moment there are eight people dead,” including a minor “and we have nine wounded who have been transferred to the care centers” nearby, he detailed last Tuesday.
In 2022, some 7,200 people lost their lives due to traffic accidents in this country of 50 million inhabitants, 13% more than the previous year, according to the state National Road Safety Agency.
